How Our Polo Mallets Are Made

Every player has their own preference for how a mallet should feel. At our workshop in Midhurst, West Sussex, Scott and Biff make each Emita Polo mallet to the customers requirements, individually selecting and matching the head and cane.

SELECTING THE HEAD

We source our pre-shaped tipa wood heads from Argentina. When they arrive, we weigh every head individually and sort them into weight categories. Each head is then drilled to fit the cane.

This means we can start with the head weight the player has requested and build their mallet around it.

CHOOSING AND MATCHING THE CANE

We assess each can and group them according to stiffness. Once we have selected the head, we choose a cane to suit both its weight and the players preferences.

Grouping the canes is only the starting point. We feel each cane individually within that group to find the right match for the customer. This hands-on selection is central to how we make our mallets.

BUILDING THE MALLET

With the head and cane selected, we fit them together. We then build a wooden handle onto the cane and fit and wrap the grip and sling.

From choosing the components to putting them together, each mallet is made individually by our workshop team.

PAINTING AND FINISHING

We paint the head to the customers requirements, allow it to dry, then apply varnish.

To finsh, we add the customers initials and our Emita Polo sticker, a personal finishing touch before the mallet leaves our workshop.
